Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven

“You are wanted. Big, small, tall, short, pretty, plain, friendly, shy. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, not even yourself.”

Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven is an exhilarating and touching novel that shows you how when you meet someone special, your whole world can change. This book will have you gripped as soon as you start reading it. This book is a romance novel and a fiction and I would recommend it to teenagers and young adults. It explores the journey of finding yourself and accepting who you are.

The characters of this novel are extremely interesting and detailed. Libby Strout has been known as the fat girl all of her life, no one looks past that to see who she really is. People only remember her being lifted from her house by a crane. Jack Masselin has been known as the popular, sexy guy all his life, but he’s hiding a huge secret, he has Prosopagnosia. The struggles that they have faced throughout their lives make you have more of a connection with them and an understanding of them. These facts also make you wonder how their lives are going to change because of each other.

The romantic and jaw-dropping plot has you sitting on the edge of your seat. The story is told jumping from the future to the past and it also gives you the story told from Libby and Jack’s point of view. This gives the reader a better understanding of what’s going through both of these character’s heads and why they do the things that they do. It also makes you more interested in the novel as it starts off in the future and you want to know what happened to get to that point. The style of writing is casual and describes the characters fully. Libby’s thoughts and actions are more vibrant, which describes her personality, while Jack’s are more cautious, which also describes his personality.

I recommend this book because it shows you that no matter how many hardships you face in life, if you find the right person, you can be happy. It shows you that you mustn’t be afraid to live your life to its fullest because you never know what might happen.

Donna’s Daily Deats - Love, Lucas by Chantelle Sedgwick

Love, Lucas by Chantelle Sedgwick

“Life is short. There is no time to leave important words unsaid.”

Love, Lucas by Chantelle Sedgwick is a beautiful novel full of loss and love. This book will have your attention from the very beginning and it will leave you in tears. This book is a realistic fiction and I would recommend it to teenagers or young adults. It tackles difficult topics that the reader might be able to relate to, such as grief, new beginnings and love.

The romantic and original plot and the all the unexpected twists will leave you in shock. Just as you think you know how this story is going to end, a huge plot twist changes everything. This book will drag you under the water and you will find yourself gasping for air before it brings you back up for a huge breath.

The style of writing makes you feel like you are reading your own thoughts. You feel comfortable reading this book and the author has made sure that she doesn’t leave out any of Oakley’s thoughts or any details.

The delicate, yet strong-willed and interesting character of Oakley Nelson will have your attention after the first page. You find yourself wanting to know more and more about her. When Carson enters Oakley’s life you find yourself wondering if Oakley will hold onto the pain of her past or if she will be able to learn to love and feel alive again.

I recommend this book because it helps someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one realise that it is okay to find happiness and love again. It shows you that you can find joy and peace with the memories that you shared with them and move forward.
